Unfolding Into

Becoming Whole in Identity and Connection Through Expressive Arts

A new workbook by Lindsey Sherwin, MSc, MHC-LP, RDT, EXAT
Featuring original commentary and reflections by Dr. Jeff Mims, Ph.D., M.S.

Discover the Transformative Power of Expressive Arts

Healing is not about forgetting the past—it is about discovering new ways to understand it.

Unfolding Into: Becoming Whole in Identity and Connection Through Expressive Arts is a practical and reflective workbook that invites readers to explore identity, creativity, and healing through expressive arts.

Written by Lindsey Sherwin, MSc, MHC-LP, RDT, EXAT, this workbook introduces the RC7 Model, a seven-phase framework designed to help individuals strengthen identity, deepen self-expression, and build meaningful connections through creative practice.

Originally developed for adolescents and young adults, Unfolding Into also serves as a valuable resource for clinicians, educators, expressive arts practitioners, and anyone seeking to engage in their own journey of personal growth.

A Creative Journey Toward Wholeness

Rather than viewing healing as a destination, Unfolding Into presents it as an ongoing creative process.

Throughout the workbook, readers are encouraged to engage with image, writing, poetry, music, movement, symbolism, and storytelling to better understand themselves and reimagine the stories they carry.

Activities such as:

  • Masks I Wear / Truth I Carry

  • Story, Symbol & Self

  • Guided reflective exercises

  • Creative expression prompts

Help transform reflection into meaningful action.

At the heart of the workbook is a belief that healing grows through authentic relationships, creative exploration, acceptance, and the courage to see our stories from new perspectives.

Featuring Reflections from Dr. Jeff Mims

As part of this publication, Dr. Jeff Mims, Ph.D., M.S., Founder of the Music & Expressive Arts Center of Oklahoma (MEACO), contributes original commentary exploring the relationship between music, creativity, and human development.

Drawing from his work as a humanistic psychologist, professional musician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Mims reflects on how musical experiences can deepen self-awareness, strengthen emotional resilience, and create opportunities for healing through expressive arts.

His contributions encourage readers to view music not simply as an artistic experience, but as a catalyst for connection, expression, and transformation.

Why This Work Matters

Unfolding Into reflects a growing movement within expressive arts that recognizes creativity as an essential component of wellbeing.

By integrating psychology, music, movement, visual arts, poetry, and storytelling, the workbook offers readers practical pathways toward:

  • Greater self-awareness

  • Identity development

  • Emotional resilience

  • Creative confidence

  • Authentic connection

  • Personal transformation
